For the foreseeable future, all of the washrooms at Centennial Spray Park have been closed by the City, due to excessive vandalism. More than a bit of graffiti.
On top of all of the murals on all of the doors of our volunteer funded change-rooms and washrooms building for the ice rink and spray park being damaged beyond repair. There have been fires set in the washrooms and major damage to walls and fixtures.
Well done, whoever you were, hope you all are real proud of yourselves.
This was not done during the dark of night. This was the after school and early evening crowd. As one of the last few people out here who have been trying to have built a skateboard park, bike park, someplace for the youth and teen crowd to go to …I’m finding it hard to care anymore.
Having people volunteer to spend many years fundraising for upgrades that are then just vandalized is a hard sell.
Retaining people like that who are willing to take on more senior roles with the WCDS and volunteer to keep the Society going is becoming even more difficult.
So, Westsyde, if you have any ideas about how our community can move forward from this, please come to the next meeting of the Westsyde Community Development Society which starts promptly at 7:00pm Nov. 3rd at the Westsyde Neighbourhood Centre or you can visit our website wcds.westsyde.info
